We’re Hiring!

L.A.P. is currently hiring part-time front desk staff, weekend birthday party hostesses, and part-time animal care staff.  Several positions do not require previous experience; we welcome students and first-time employees and will provide training.  To apply, complete our Employment Application and email to admin@leesburganimalpark.com with the subject “LAP Employment Application.”  Tell us a little about yourself in the body of the email and we’ll get back to you to schedule an interview as soon as possible. 

Internship Programs

 

Interested in pursuing a career in education, zoos, or conservation? Need experience with large or exotic animals to build your resume or fulfill a veterinary technician requirement? Leesburg Animal Park offers two internship programs throughout the year.

 

Animal Care Internship Program

 

  • Interns may assist with one or more of the following:
  • Learn and perform basic husbandry for a variety of domestic and exotic animals
  • Maintain enrichment calendar, and create new enrichment for a variety of domestic and exotic animals
  • Assist staff with exhibit maintenance.
  • Care and maintain pollinator’s garden
  • Assist in animal maintenance. May include grooming, hoofpicking, nail trims, deworming etc.
  • Learning to maintain animal records, observing animal behavior and recording an ethogram, participating in animal training programs etc.
  • Engage with the public during informal educational animal presentations. May include a live animal or biofacts
  • Maintenance of park grounds
  • May be scheduled for a Zoo To You offsite program

 

Conservation Education Internship Program

 

  • Interns may assist with one or more of the following:
    • Participate in offsite programming through Leesburg Animal Park’s Zoo To You
    • Assist in prepping for offsite programming
    • Participate in summer camps as teacher’s aide
    • Participate in zookeeper for a day camps as teacher’s aide
    • Assist camp teacher in prep for summer camps or zookeeper for a day camps
    • Create presentation for Conservation Corner’s info board
    • Engage with the public during informal educational animal presentations. May include a live animal or biofacts
    • Participate in weekly education program at Leesburg Animal Park
    • Prep for Leesburg Animal Park birthday parties and assist in hosting (weekends only)

 

Qualifications

 

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Must have interest and enthusiasm for conservation and wildlife education
  • Must be comfortable engaging with audiences of all ages
  • Must be willing to take initiative and be motivated to seek new learning opportunities
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must have excellent organizational skills
  • Must be willing to work in both solo and team situations

 

Stipend

This is an unpaid internship.  If applicable, LAP will work with an intern to obtain credit hours, but it is the responsibility of the intern to verify availability through their school and supply the required paperwork in a timely fashion.

 

Term of appointment

 

  • Each program commitment is for 12-16 hours per week. Length of term and starting/ending dates are flexible.  Applicants should indicate availability when submitting their application
  • Spring Session: 
    • February 1st – April 30th, application deadline January 15
  • Summer Session:
    • May 1st – July 31st, application deadline April 15
  • Fall Session: 
    • August 1st – October 31st, application deadline July 15
  • Winter Session: 
    • November 1st – January 31st, application deadline October 15
